Our second WOD Wednesday post of the week features

Our second WOD Wednesday post of the week features Winnie Wartels.

A senior at Darien High School, Winnie is a varsity rower and Co-Editor-in-Chief of the student newspaper. This fall, she will continue her rowing career at Santa Clara University. Through her dedication, leadership, and teamwork, Winnie sets an example for her peers both on and off the water.

When asked what helps make a community stronger, Winnie shared:
“Reaching out and helping our neighbors. Whether it’s assisting with simple chores or bringing over a dinner, offering a hand is a kind action that will strengthen our community.”

Inspired by her mother’s kindness, authenticity, and optimism, Winnie strives to lead with the same warmth and resilience in her own life.

Her personal motto: “Treat others the way you want to be treated.”

As we continue celebrating our 2026 Women of Distinction honorees, we’re proud to recognize leaders who are helping our community grow and thrive.

This week, we’re honored to spotlight Erin Noonan.

Erin is the Executive Director of the Darien Community Association, where, through her leadership, she has expanded membership, increased engagement, and deepened the organization’s impact across the community. Driven by collaboration and creativity, Erin is passionate about bringing people together and turning big ideas into reality.

When asked what helps make a community stronger, Erin shared:
“Show up. Attend the event. Volunteer your time. Patronize local businesses. Help your neighbor. Your presence and participation will build connections, a sense of belonging, and, over time, a stronger community.”

Inspired by women from all walks of life, she especially admires those who use their voices to uplift others and stand up for what’s right.

Her personal motto: “Be present, be curious, be open, be safe, be grateful.”

Next up, meet Rowan Troy. A junior at Darien High

Next up, meet Rowan Troy.

A junior at Darien High School, Rowan is a dedicated student leader and co-president of the Depot’s EmpowHer Club, where she helps foster connection and empowerment among young women. She is also actively involved in Book Club, Feeding 500, She’s The First, the girls JV golf team, and the Spanish National Honor Society.

When asked what helps make a community stronger, Rowan shared:
“One action we can take is to look for opportunities to strengthen connections between girls and women in our community.”

Inspired by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Rowan is motivated to challenge herself, embrace opportunities, and pursue her goals with determination.

Her personal motto: “You only live once.”

We’re continuing our Women of Distinction spotligh

We’re continuing our Women of Distinction spotlight series by highlighting 2 more of our young leaders making a meaningful impact in our community.

First up is Tate Wein.

A senior at Darien High School, Tate has been an active member of the Depot Student Government Board since her sophomore year. Through her involvement, she has found meaningful ways to give back, connect with others, and strengthen her community.

When asked what helps make a community stronger, Tate shared:
“One action we can take to make our community stronger is to try and reach out to new people. When we welcome and include others, it helps everyone feel like they belong.”

Inspired by her mom, Tate strives to lead with confidence, kindness, and a willingness to step outside her comfort zone.

Her personal motto: “Everything happens for a reason.”
