Economic empowerment is a core part of our mission

Economic empowerment is a core part of our mission, but more importantly it’s something so many women are looking for.

This isn’t about being perfect with money.

It’s about understanding it, feeling more confident, and having the tools to make decisions that support your life.

Our Women & Money: A Learning Series is a no-cost, 4-week cohort designed to meet you wherever you are in your financial journey.

We’re honored to continue our Women of Distinction

We’re honored to continue our Women of Distinction series by recognizing leaders whose dedication and compassion help strengthen our community every day.

This week, we’re proud to celebrate Ali Ramsteck.

A licensed clinical social worker with nearly 30 years of experience, Ali began her career on an inpatient geriatric psychiatry unit at New York Presbyterian Hospital. She joined Darien Human Services in 2012 and became Director in 2017, later expanding her leadership in 2025 as Director of the Mather Senior Center. A Darien resident for over two decades, she has remained deeply committed to supporting her community while raising her three daughters.

When asked what helps make a community stronger, Ali shared:
“Strong communities are built when we look out for one another and take the time to reach out and connect with our neighbors.”

Inspired by her mother’s unwavering support and encouragement, Ali continues to lead with empathy, strength, and a deep sense of purpose.

Her personal motto: “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”

We’re proud to take part in Until Justice Just Is, alongside YWCA USA—a national campaign held each April to raise awareness of systemic racism and explore how each of us can take action to advance justice.

This year’s theme, Democracy in Progress: Voting Rights at 250, explores the history and future of voting rights, the impact of voter suppression, and what’s happening today.

Through a 21-day virtual learning experience, you’ll receive short daily emails with curated content, reflection prompts, and simple ways to engage - at your own pace.

This week, we’re also featuring one of our youth in the Women of Distinction spotlight, Alexis Procopion.

A senior at Darien High School, Alexis is a compassionate and driven leader who is dedicated to building meaningful connections across generations. As President of Smiles for Seniors at The Depot, she creates opportunities for students to engage with older adults, fostering empathy and reducing isolation. In school, she serves as Captain of the girls’ volleyball team, President of both Best Buddies and Mindful Moments, and a Blue Wave Anchor.

When asked what helps make a community stronger, Alexis shared:
“Slow down and take the time to truly engage with others in the community.”
Inspired by her mother’s selflessness and compassion, she strives to lead with kindness in everything she does.

Her personal motto: “Do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.”

Each week, we’re proud to spotlight a member of our 2026 Women of Distinction class — individuals whose leadership and service help shape a stronger community.

Today, we’re celebrating Emily Miller.

Emily is a student leader at Darien High School who is deeply involved both in and out of the classroom. As a leader of The Depot volunteer club, President of the robotics club, and member of both the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society, she brings curiosity, dedication, and a strong commitment to giving back.

When asked what helps make a community stronger, Emily shared:
“Remember the names of the people you meet around town. When everybody in a town makes an effort to know each other, it creates a more tight-knit community where people feel valued and recognized.”

Inspired by Marie Curie, Emily is passionate about STEM and hopes to continue making an impact through both innovation and service.

Her personal motto: “You have two hands; one to help yourself and one to help others.”
